QUESTION: Do I have to learn to fly an airplane before I can learn to fly a helicopter?

ANSWER:
Absolutely not! In fact, if you're interested in a career as a professional helicopter pilot, it would be more beneficial to learn to fly in helicopters from the start.

QUESTION: - Who can get an FAA Pilot Certificate?

ANSWER:
Anyone who is able to read, speak and understand English, be able to pass an FAA medical examination and meet the following age requirements:

* private pilot license-age 17
* commercial pilot license-age 18
* air transport pilot-age 23

QUESTION: How long does it take to get a helicopter pilot certificate?

ANSWER:
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires a minimum of 40 hours of total flight time in the aircraft, including at least 20 hours of dual instruction and 10 hours of solo flight for a private pilot license.

QUESTION: - If the engine quits, can you still safely land the helicopter?

Answer:
Yes! An engine failure in a properly-maintained, FAA-certified helicopter is extremely rare, however, part of your helicopter training will involve learning to perform "autorotations" where the helicopter can "glide" with power off. As the helicopter descends, the air moving up through the rotor blades causes them to turn, providing lift, which allows the helicopter to come down at a constant rate.
